| God called Noah to be a preserver, Moses was a deliverer, Joseph was a succorer Nehemiah a repairer, Daniel was in government, Jesus Christ was sent as saviour of the whole world while Peter, Matthew, James, Luke, John and Paul were preachers. Deborah was a judge, Anna was a prophetess.
There is always a need and a cogent reason why God calls a man to undertake a particular assignment. Jonah was sent to Nineveh to lead the people in the way of the Lord, Prophet Isaiah was specifically sent to the nation of Israel to reprove them and foretell the coming of the great king – Jesus Christ.
God who called those great men and women in the Bible has not changed; He is the God of yesterday, today and forever more (Hebrews 13:8).
Prior to the 4 th of February, 2001 that the Lord confirmed His calling upon the life of His servant – Pastor Solomon Jegede, the Lord had shown him several signs and open visions – often times, while walking on campus, even, outside the school campus, he would see himself preaching to great multitudes and hearing them saying a loud “AMEN” “HALELUYAH” This happened at different times and he would wonder at such strange encounters.
While in the “heat” of 2 nd Semester, 3 rd year examination in the University in the year 2001, the Lord told Pastor Jegede that the school would soon be closed down. He then asked the Lord what He should do next, and the Lord told him to go to WORD OF FAITH BIBLE INSTITUTE in Lagos.
Before this encounter with the Lord, the examination had been shifted at different times in the year 2000 and while it was finally slated for December 2000/January 2001, every student wanted to write and rest as to plan and settle for the final year! But the Lord spoke to His servant that the examination would be put on hold.
When his encounter with the Lord was shared among his course mates and friends, some did not believe him rather, they said “Jegede, you have been saying “God said” before and we believed you but this time around, it won't work because we want to write our exams and go for rest, we are tired of staying any longer in school”.
Among all the people he told about his encounter with the Lord, it was one of his Pastor's friends on campus that believed what the Lord said and lo and behold, the school was closed down as God said. That was January, 2001. Genesis 21:1.
Having been determined to do what the Lord commanded him to do; he went to his pastor to pray for him about his journey from Enugu to Lagos and his pastor having prayed for him then said humorously in Igbo dialect. “Bro Jegede, O dikwa dangerous” meaning, going to Bible school simply because of a sudden strike while writing examination is extremely dangerous because the strike may be called off at any time.
But as Pastor Jegede always says that those who truly hear the voice of His majesty don't doubt when He speaks to them. The Lord actually disrupted the school's program for one month simply because He needed to deliver a generational mandate to His servant.
On the 30 th January, 2001, he left for Lagos and enrolled for 1 month intensive Bible school at Word of Faith Bible Institute, Winners' Chapel, 38, Raji Oba Iyana Ipaja, Lagos .
On the 31 st January, 2001 being Wednesday, having done with Bible school's registration and submission of form he went back home at 23, Obafemi Edunjobi's Street, Dopemu Lagos State to give thanks unto the Lord for what God has in mind to reveal unto him for coming all the way from the East of the Niger to the West, Lagos State.
As he was worshipping the Lord, suddenly, in an open vision, he saw himself ministering in a very large auditorium filled with worshippers and the Lord said to him “That is you preaching the Word”.
“ That is you preaching the Word ” kept coming till Sunday 4 th of February, 2001 when the Lord actually confirmed the calling upon his life.
His mentor, Dr. David Oyedepo preached a message entitled “ SUCCESS WITHOUT SWEAT ” that day 4 th February and that teaching centered on the fulfillment of divine purpose. After the Sunday meeting, Pastor Jegede went to the Altar to pray based on what the preacher, Dr. Oyedepo said about asking the Lord to instruct one and show one divine assignment – which could only guarantee success without sweat.
As he prayed intensely, before the Altar of the Lord at Faith Tabernacle, asking the Lord to lead and guide him and to let him know if He were the one who said ‘ that it is you preaching the word' , the Lord led him to a scripture in 2 Timothy 4:2 which says: “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine ”
There and then, the Lord told him that He was the one who told him “That is you preaching the Word, therefore go and preach the Word” 2 Timothy 4:2. This scripture has been the Mission Statement of the Ministry.
Having shared the vision with some Christian brothers and friends, a year after, DESTINY HOUSE (a prayer group) was inaugurated on the 16 th March, 2002 in the city of Enugu where fortnight prayer meetings for the vision began.
Then, on the 5 th March, 2003 DESTINY HOUSE FELLOWSHIP INTERNATIONAL , a weekly fellowship started with 10 persons in attendance in the city of Port Harcourt .
Also, the fellowship metamorphosed to what is now known as Destiny In The Word Church which was commissioned and dedicated to the Lord on Saturday 18 th December, 2004. The ministry has been growing from glory to glory. To God be all the praises! |
